Apply for this role
  • Great executive managers and leaders who will ensure we reach our vision for the best engineering and product teams in Canada
  • Community-builders who are passionate about people being together and growing in-person teams here on the prairies: building trust, creating close ties, nurturing communication and fostering strong relationships
  • Motivating leaders who spend time contextualizing and sharing the company’s strategic goals to help others feel connected and involved
  • Driven, performance-focused leaders who don’t just run teams, but who constantly push them to achieve and level them up
  • Startup innovators who understand that we can’t move faster or win by creating endless processes, approvals, checkpoints, policies, or rules
  • Flexible leaders who can hop onto a ship in motion: you’re excited to help us improve a spotify-team model, continuous delivery, kanban, and more
  • Aligned partners who value what we value (e.g. ownership, winning, & diversity)
  • Confident managers who can hold others accountable, and who speak out against mediocre or sub-par results anywhere at Sequestr.
  • Highly ambitious, big-picture thinkers who can imagine what Sequestr can be and can execute on our plan to get there in an impossibly short time

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise, mentor, and collaborate with engineering managers who are in the thick of it with their teams every day
  • Collaborate with our Product Management team and leaders to help map our product roadmap onto small, agile engineering teams
  • Help achieve a strong balance between immediate business needs and doing the right thing from a tech or engineering perspective
  • Look for trends, root causes, or long term improvements we can make (even if our managers and technical leads are focused on immediate problems or fires)
  • Engage with technical leaders on the team to ensure we’re pursuing technical excellence; coach them to build technology roadmaps and hold leaders accountable for hitting milestones
  • Lead people/recruiting team efforts to find, recruit, interview, onboard and grow our tremendous pool of talent; ensure we can hit near-impossible growth goals by taking an active approach every day
  • Motivate the whole team to be involved in the tech community to bolster Sequestr’s presence and reputation; encourage others to step up but show them the way
  • Work with business stakeholders at Sequestr or other companies, often serving as a connection point for relationships, partnerships or initiatives
  • Figure out how to get great outcomes by setting the appropriate context and expectations, rather than by trying to control, set policies, or dictate directions

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in a medium or larger software company including 3+ years managing high performance teams
  • Demonstrated ability to hire and grow senior leaders and managers
  • Strong technical craft mastery and engineering discipline
  • Deep organization capabilities, especially in regards to influence, collaboration and communication
  • Growth or business experience and focus is a plus

What we value

  • Motivating leaders who spend time contextualizing and sharing the company’s strategic goals to help others feel connected and involved
  • Driven, performance-focused leaders who don’t just run teams, but who constantly push them to achieve and level them up
  • Startup innovators who understand that we can’t move faster or win by creating endless processes, approvals, checkpoints, policies, or rules
  • Confident managers who can hold others accountable, and who speak out against mediocre or sub-par results anywhere at Sequestr.
  • Highly ambitious, big-picture thinkers who can imagine what Sequestr can be and can execute on our plan to get there in an impossibly short time

Benefits

  • Mission-oriented culture — if we can help you succeed and achieve your personal missions while sequestering emissions, all the better
  • Training / education as requested — if you’re interested in taking courses, or additional education to improve personally and/or professionally, we will compensate what we can!
  • Yearly WFH office budget for upgrades/improvements
  • Unlimited vacations but we mandate 3 weeks of time off per year — this is to encourage work-life balance, and reduce the risk of burnout
